Day 1 : Marrakech – Essaouira – Marrakech

You are picked up from your hotel or hostel in Marrakech before 8.00 a.m. and we make our way through the breathtaking landscapes of the R207 route to the coast. On the way we will stop to see the argan trees where small goats climb the low branches and feed. Sometimes there are up to 20 goats sitting on a tree. It is a fascinating sight and an absolute necessity when it comes to getting a photo opportunity.

Also on the way we will stop at a women’s cooperative where argan oil is produced. The oil is extracted from the kernels of the tree and is a delicious accompaniment to a meal of Moroccan bread or simply to drizzle on a pitta bread. The oil is also used as a beauty product for the treatment of skin and hair.

Our day trip to Essaouira from Marrakech arrives at the tourist and port city, where you will see the vast expanse of the North Atlantic Ocean. The vibrant old town (medina) is a world heritage site, and it won’t take you long to realize why. Old brass cannons line the walls and defences protect the sea front from ancient invasions.
